Frequently Asked Questions
So you are thinking of booking a function aboard the San Michelle but have some questions?
Here are some we prepared earlier:
Q. How many people can the San Michelle carry?
A. The San Michelle is licenced to carry 36 passengers and 4 crew. The ideal number of guests at your function will depend of the kind of food you will be having:
If you are having food that needs to be eaten with a knife and fork, then in the interests of the comfort of your guests, around 25 would be a good maximum number
If you are having finger food or canapés, gourmet sausage sizzle or fish & chips for example, numbers up to 36 are fine.
Q. Where will the cruise board from?
A. The San Michelle boards from the wharf at the end of Hollingworth street next to Waters Edge. This is a nice safe wharf in a great, central location that usually has plenty of parking.
If you have a special request to board at a particular location, just ask. This will be dependent upon the tides and the safety of the location.
Q. Can we bring our own alcohol?
A. Yes, you can BYO. We supply the ice and a extra large esky as part of the charter cost. You are welcome to bring your drinks down to the boat on the morning of your cruise (by prior arrangement) and we will have them chilled and ready for you and your guests on boarding.
Q. Can we self cater and what does it involve?
A. Yes, we do offer a self catering option, with a difference! We will take your food into our galley upon your arrival and serve it on our platters. We will keep your food coming during the cruise, ensuring that it does not dry out or go soft, whatever the case may be. The best part is that nobody in your group has to be the one to worry about the food. We do all the clean up and pack up your leftovers for collection the following day. This option will be cahrged at a rate of $3 per head and is suitable for fingerfoods only with a limit of 2 hot courses due to restricted capacity for reheating. Just ask us for our recommendations of the best foods for your function.
Q. How long are the cruises and where will we go?
A. Most people choose a three hour cruise (we have a 2 hour minimum) which will usually take us to Blackmans Point and back with a cruise around the canals if time permits. This will vary depending on the time of day, tides and weather.
Functions over 3 hours will attract a discount of $100 per hour for each additional hour.
Q. What if I would like to enjoy a cruise on the San Michelle but I dont have a big enough group ?
A. We understand that not everyone has a special event to celebrate which brings together a larger group of friends and family and we would like to make the beautiful San Michelle available to all, so we have launched our "Rock the Boat Parties" and "Twilight Cruising". These exclusive, ticketed events will run alongside our private functions at intervals throughout the year. See our Events page for more details.
